After several successful study collaborations between NZU and Bauhaus-University Weimar (=my previous institution), winter 2008 saw the first of such exchange exhibitions between NZU and my new institution, the Academy of Visual Arts in Hong Kong.
In opposite to many other student exchange exhibitions, in which the works from the participating schools are merely exhibited together, but don’t necessarily correspond, in Transit 2008 the pieces did enter into a conversation, correlating and balancing each other. On a personal level, this was matched by the seemingly instant connection made between Japanese and Chinese students despite the expectable language-problems, cultural differences and differing personal backgrounds.
